Jose DevLog #2: Paws, Pockets, and Pause Menus 🐾


What’s up everyone?!

This week I spent time expanding the UI and starting to nail down the game’s overall look. I created new assets like buttons and windows, and set up the functionality for the pause menu and collectibles section in Blueprint. Getting the pause menu to feel good was a nice win, and for the collectibles I designed cats peeking out of little pockets, a cute/funny way to display them. I’m not 100% set on the pocket idea yet, but it’s coming along.

Working on the UI also led me to establish a color scheme for the menus, so I now have a clearer sense of the aesthetic direction. You can see a preview of the pause menu and the ā€œCat-a-logā€ collectibles screen in the images. The collectibles one isn’t fully finished yet, but I like how the style is coming together, it feels cohesive, cute, and playful.

Next up, I’ll be finishing the collectibles section, moving on to making lure assets, polishing what’s already in place, and putting together a proper title card for the game. Little by little, we’re going to reel this bad boi in! šŸŽ£
